Traded for a 98 Mustang GT. 4.6, five speed, limited slip. 109k miles and a clean title. Yeah, I’m confused too.
Witness me.

Nice! I owned one for three or so weeks a few months ago haha. They’re so easy to work on, I’m sure you’ll have fun! https://oppositelock.kinja.com/tag/crustang

Perfect winter car! Oh wait...

Bold call, I like it.

As the former owner of 1997 Mustang GT, I’m sure you will be filling that tank many, many times.....

$29.95 for a synthetic blend oil change!

Eh, if he’s in the Dayton area that barely counts as winter. Will a decent set of tires, he shouldn’t have any issues.

Change the fluids and that motor/trans will run damn near forever.
Stupid easy to work on. Slow but fun to drive. Strut tower brace and a front s way bar will help with the front end push.

Gonna have to recalibrate your braking distances

I was just kidding because I’m only a few miles from him myself and until last year I didn’t bother with winter tires on my truck.

This is a marked improvement.

Who on earth would trade a clean looking V8 GT for a very broken Golf?

Saw one of those SC2 asymmetrical coupes recently. Nice.

And it was at that moment the Georgian wished to decline the “barely winter” winter of Dayton.

Wow! You definitely got the good end of that trade!

I keep thinking about that car. If I had infinite space, time, and money, I’d have kept it.

In the five winters I’ve had a car here, all seasons have been fine. This... will not be.

Some dude. Don’t question it.
There’s some rust. Nothing structural.

Seats are in great shape. One small tear on the seam of the driver outside bolster. Didn’t see any dash cracks. No radio and the center stack plastic thingy is loose, center console is loose and the storage compartment lid is broken off, but that’s it. Headliner is mint too.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 00:21 |

Sounds like you got the good end of the trade. Man, VW people are crazy.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 00:23 |

It was empty so I filled it. 13.5 gallons in. Drove about 150 miles today. Tank still says a little less than 3/4. I don’t trust it. I expect 15 mpg but 87 is was $1.87 today.

Dude wasn’t even a VW guy... totally strange.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 00:30 |

I never averaged better than 16 mpg, and I drove mine like a little old lady. My F150 with the 4.6 averages the same. Seems odd that the Mustang wouldn’t do better than a pickup.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 00:35 |

Gonna be honest. As long as I don’t do something dumb like tune this for 93 or corn, it will be cheaper to fuel than my Mk3 Golf was/way cheaper than it will be when I’m finished building a new motor. I generally saw about 20 mpg on 93. An aggressive tank got about 16, the best I could get of just highway cruising was 27.

I always say, if you add more horses you have to feed more horses, and if you make those horses run, the greater their appetite.
Cheap gas won’t be around forever, so enj oy it while you can.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 00:50 |

Yeah.... midwest gas prices are usually pretty low. Eventually stuff here will be all pure corn, but honestly that’s decades from now at the earliest. Shit, we can still buy leaded gas here if you know where.
93 is the price I paid for 7600 rpm.

Looks good! I spy with my little eye some Torq-Thrust/funnel-spoke/Bullitt wheels... any other mods?
![]() 11/01/2020 at 06:27 |
|
Cool trade , have fun with it!
![]() 11/01/2020 at 06:36 |
|
I hate torq thrusts. The chrome is peeling, I’m gonna run those wheels til the spring then get a better wheel and tire combo. Turn these into smoke and scrap em.
Dude told me it had “bigger heads” ( whatever that means) , a “racing clutch” (absurdly heavy), and it’s got an exhaust on it, but one side is broken at about the axle. It would be loud even if it weren’t. It sounds bad ass.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 06:46 |
|
Hm, as I understand it the heads are the main choke point on these cars, so if he meant high-flow heads, then yeah that plus the exhaust would be a good combination . “Racing clutch”... I guess it depends on what level kit was installed. I doubt it’s making enough power to justify a stage 3 kit, but if it’s a stage 1, then that’d be much more reasonable.
How about the intake manifold? The original ones had a plastic coolant crossover on the front, which is very likely to have already cracked and been replaced by now.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 07:03 |
|
Haven’t dug into it at all. I’ll take more photos and such later today. But yeah high flow heads, maybe, it’s still a 2v

V8’s are so much fun. You’re going to have a blast with that Mustang.
I’ve been working at home since March and have been feeling a little down about being stuck at home all the time. I finally had chance to take the Camaro out for a drive yesterday and it was just the thing my soul needed. V8 noises can cure any ailment.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 08:57 |

That Camaro is awesome.
Love the way mine sounds. I was cruising 70ish last night and went to pass someone. Being used to 100hp VWs, I dropped to 3rd and floored it... didn’t realize I got up to 110. Oops. Sounds killer.
![]() 11/01/2020 at 11:13 |

Well at this point I think so should just accept that you got the trade of a lifetime.

I always liked this era of Stangs. My wife had a v6 stick when we met. It was a fun car (even with the 6). The seats were more comfortable than my current 2019 GT.

Can confirm, seats are amazing.
